What we publish

Our editors write every story themselves, in plain language, across five desks: World, Science, Tech, Culture and Oddities. Each story links out to the references behind it, so you can read further and check our work.

Alongside the news we keep a stream of factoids: a "Did you know?" for every day and a look back at what happened on this day in history.

How we treat readers

• No advertising, and no analytics or tracking scripts from anyone else.
• Reading needs no account. If you make one, it needs only a username and password: no email address, phone number or real name.
• Add the site to your home screen and it works like an app, with a friendly page when you're offline.
